Frequently Asked Questions
How do I start shaving?
When you receive your razor, the first step is to insert the blade. To do this, gently hold the razor head and unscrew the handle. A blade can then be placed between the metal head components before reassembling the razor. Now you are ready to shave. Watch the video on our about page to learn more about the technique.
What blades do I use and where do I get them?
Double edge blades are standard. This means that you can experiment between the different options and choose what works best for you.
The great part is that you can get blades at most pharmacies and convenience stores around the country from as little as R10 per pack.
How long does a blade last?
A single blade can last up to 6 shaves, but we recommend replacing blades every 2 weeks regardless.
A pack of 5 blades should last roughly a month for the person who shaves every day but could last longer the less frequently you shave.
How do I dispose of my blades?
Although these stainless steel blades do not contribute to plastic pollution, they are not the friendliest things to encounter in a landfill. We recommend keeping a glass or plastic jar in the bathroom where you can keep all of your old blades. This doesn’t take up too much space and will take years to fill up.
What shaving soap should I use?
For the best results we suggest using a shaving soap or cream paired with a brush. Working up a lather and applying to the face with the brush exfoliates the skin and lifts the hair, resulting in a close shave.
If you do not have a brush and soap, don’t worry – conventional shaving creams work too.
How much money do I save?
The short answer is “enough to make a difference.”
At the end of the day, it depends on how often you shave, your current choice of razor and what quality of shave you choose to be happy with. We have found however, that the majority of people who use cartridge razors and spend upwards of R200 per month for an average-at-best shave, can save in the region of R500-R1000 in the first year and over R1000 per year thereafter.
Where cartridge razors are impermanent and need replacing every few months, the once off investment of a safety razor plus the price to get it to you, ensures that your only expense in the years to follow is the blades
“And the cost of blades?” – If you shave every day, blades should not cost more than R150 for the entire year!
How do I care for my razor?
Ensure that the handle is dried after every shave and that the razor head is cleaned of any shaving soap or hair.
